The Vanderbilt Bridge Club has served the North Shore of Long Island since 1959. Organized as a membership club it began as the Town and Country. It became the Player's Club for a short time before it was purchased by Frank & Diana Schuld. January 1st of 1975 saw the beginning of the new Vanderbilt Bridge Club.
Since Frank's death in 1994 the club has been run by Diana Schuld. Over the years we have seen many changes. We have gone from large evening games to large afternoon games due to the aging of the bridge community. We have added full lunches where we used to serve a light one. From the 1980's when we once ran 1800 tables in a month and averaged 1500 per month easily, our bridge community has decreased to under 1000 per month. The main reason for this decrease is the exodus to warmer climes by one third of our former players and wintering there by another third.
We currently hold seven afternoon games per week, plus three games with a short lesson beforehand: Tuesday morning 0-2000 lesson at 9:45a.m. , an OPEN lesson at 6:30p.m. Wednesday evenings, a New-to Duplicate game w/bagels, 10a.m. Saturday mornings. A full schedule of special events can be found in our News section.
